About this session

What remedial massage actually does

Remedial massage is a systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissue. It is not a relaxation massage with firmer pressure — it starts with a short movement check so the work goes where it will actually change something.

Whether you are recovering from training, managing an old injury, or carrying the postural strain of desk work, the aim is the same: release what is restricted, restore how the area moves, and give you two or three things to do between sessions so the change holds.

What happens in a session

Three parts, every time.

  1. 1

    Assessment

A short movement check to find what is actually driving the tension.

  2. 2

    Treatment

Targeted deep-tissue work on the layers that need it — not everywhere, not for its own sake.

  3. 3

    Aftercare

Two or three stretches or mobility drills to keep the change between sessions.

Who this helps

Who books remedial massage — and why

Desk workers with neck, shoulder and lower-back pain

The forward-head, rounded-shoulder desk pattern loads the upper traps, levator scapulae and lumbar spine hour after hour. Remedial massage releases the trigger points that pattern creates and restores thoracic movement — and the aftercare stretches keep it from rebuilding by Friday.

Active bodies managing training load

Runners, lifters and weekend athletes accumulate tightness faster than rest alone clears it — calves, hip flexors, glutes and QLs are the usual suspects. Regular remedial work keeps tissue quality ahead of the load and catches the niggle before it becomes the injury.

Chronic tension that keeps returning

Pain that has a history responds to treatment that has a plan. Assessment finds why it keeps coming back — the stiff thoracic spine behind the neck pain, the weak glutes behind the tight hamstrings — and treatment targets the cause, not just the sore spot.

In the session

Techniques I actually use

  • Deep tissue massage

Slow, layered pressure into the deeper muscle groups — not brute force, but sustained work that lets dense tissue release.

  • Trigger point therapy

Sustained pressure on the taut, referring points that send pain elsewhere — the shoulder knot behind your headaches.

  • Myofascial release

Slower work on the connective tissue layers so muscles glide instead of dragging on each other.

  • Assisted stretching

Gentle contract-relax stretching to convert the release into range you can actually use.

Questions

Before you book

Where can I have this treatment?

In clinic at Skin Renaissance (Emerald) every Wednesday, or mobile on request across the Dandenong Ranges.

How much space do you need for mobile visits?

A massage table is about 1.9 m long; with room to move around it, a space of about 2 × 2.5 metres is plenty — a living room or bedroom usually works.

Can I claim on my health fund?

Remedial massage is claimable on most extras cover. I give you a receipt on the day and you claim through your fund's app.

Is 60 or 90 minutes better?

60 minutes suits one or two problem areas. 90 minutes lets me treat a full region and still finish with integration work — choose it if the tension is widespread or long-standing.
